i m a mechanical engineer and hv a family business of saw mill . Now in my summer vacations i used to go to ma mill daily . And during dese days i come across various things dat i dint know earlier. in our factory v got 24 ft long wood blocks from gujarat port which r imported frm i think malaysia (not sure). then v use crane to unload the trailor of dese wood blocks. after unloading our workers take them in near machine ,in dis machine v have a rail track and trouley type structure over it then they fix dis wood block over dat and put d gear den dis trouley move by its own with the help of chain drive. and in front of dis trouley a cutter is revolving over two big wheels continously.and in dis wood keeps on moving and v get the blocks of required size and further v cut it into the required smaller size.
